If you’ve never before used a face and body scrub, you may not know the body benefits of using one on a regular basis. Using a scrub on your body and/or face can be of great help to your complexion, through their ability to make skin appear brighter, fresher and more youthful.

Here are three excellent reasons to scrub up this week – and every week.

Exfoliation

Dry, cracked skin, especially similar to the kind we experience during the cold winter months, is actually just dead layers of epidermis that haven’t yet flaked off. While we lose skin cells every minute, in order to bring out the glow of the new, you have to remove the old.

To get truly a glowing, youthful complexion, you need to slough off the dead, dry skin cells regularly. Body scrubs help to do that with their exfoliating components. Apply a little scrub to your hands or a loofah, and rub it in circles over your body or face two to three times a week. Once you’re scrubbed up, rinse off with warm, but not hot, water. You may choose to apply moisturizing cream or skin lotions at this point, as freshly scrubbed skin allows moisturizers to penetrate the dermis more deeply.

Brightened, Youthful Skin

You know how when you get a pedicure, the pedicurist slough off the gray, dry bits around your heels? And how your feet feel so much better and healthier without those extra layers? Exfoliating the rest of your body is the same way – without all the dead cells, brighter and newer cells can shine through. Once you’ve used a scrub to exfoliate your body or face, the old cells are gone and younger, fresh cells are now at the surface; as a result, you’ll find yourself with a newborn-pink flush, as well as that baby softness to your body.

Clearer Complexion

If you struggle with dry skin or adult acne, using a body scrub can help clear up both of these problems, either through eliminating dry patches or removing toxins and oil on the skin’s surface. Dry patches cause the skin to produce excess sebum, or oil, to keep hydrated, which can lead to oiliness and adult acne flare-ups. At the same time, those with oily T-zones can find themselves prone to breakouts, if they don’t manage it well with blotting sheets or face wash. These people can find that applying a scrub a few times a week removes excess oil, as well as dirt and bacteria on the surface of the skin, and helps them with getting rid of acne fast.

Not only does using a body scrub provide all these benefits, even just feeling the roughness of the scrub as it works its magic feels incredible. But please note, body scrubs should not be used every single day, as they can cause irritation to freshly exfoliated skin.
